Child locks?!

First, I do not have a manual. If I did, I'd read it...

Does the ML have childlocks? I know the vehicle automatically locks the door at a certain mph. However, I do not want my children to exit the left side regardless of speed. This is due to traffic and trying to limit door dings on our other car

Anyways, I can't find a trigger/switch on the door like ALL my other vehicles. Does it even exist?

Doesn't exist.

But, existing, is an emergency tailgate exit.

See the compatibility?

BTW, rear windows can be disabled.

Actually, the ML doesn't have that handle on top of the tailgate for emergencies. It's a GL thing.

Actually, they do exist, just not in the U.S. If you look at the door edge, near the latch, you will see a stamped oblong hole in the door. This is where the child locks are installed in E.U. vehicles. MBUSA beancounters decided to save some $$$ by not installing them on U.S. vehicles. Pretty stupid way to save money, especially when MBUSA constantly advertises how safe their vehicles are.

Maybe I need to open up the door and create a DIY mod. Dunno. All I do know is this sucks.

When all of the doors are locked, only the two front doors can be opened from the inside by the driver and passenger. Rear passengers should wait until the driver unlocks all doors, they could not pull the door lock pins up by themselves. That's what my children told me.

Your right, and frankly this works really well... I was once challenged with no child door looks on the MB, especially since just before we got the MB, I had a child we were looking after decide to open the door on the highway at 120km/h - she had the seatbelt on, and the wind at that speed kept the door closed (thank God)

I had to manually turn on the child locks in that car as it was a switch like what you expect, since it was my work car, and not the family car I had never given it a second thought...

When the benz arrived - this new way I thought would be a pain, but turns out I really like that compared to the manual way...

I'm sure others will differ with this, but it does have at least some level of protection for you...

Personally, I like the way our '07 X3 behaved. It would auto lock the car just like the MB at a certain speed (8mph iirc). However, you still had the ability to throw a switch on the door jam. I liked that a little more.

I'm actually trying to find out if this feature can be turned off? I don't have any kids and was wanting to make it so the rear passengers can exit after the doors are locked without me having to unlock the doors. I looked at the manual and it doesn't look like this is possible. Can anyone else confirm this?

There's no setting for this. Not sure if someone with SDS could alter this though.
