First week impressions with the '09 ML350

Hey all,

I just wanted to share my 1st week impression of the 2009 ML350 we picked up last weekend. The wife has been out of town this week so I have had a chance to drive it whenever I wish. I have found myself actually driving it more often then the C63 right now because it has been raining and I don’t want to get the beast all dirty. Some of the little things that I feel are different/lacking when comparing it to the 09 C63 we have are:
-Lack of audible beep when locking/unlocking the doors
-The Command Nav system seems to have an outdated map as the C63 has never told me the area where I live does not have turn-by-turn directions available, but the ML has. I will need to check with the dealer to ensure we have the most recent Nav update.
-The radio stations seem to take a long time to switch whereas the C63 seems to switch stations right away.
-The SUV is much better on gas then the other cars we have, I have been presently surprised that we have drive over 325 miles and still have ¼ tank of gas left. I suspect this will get even better as the engine breaks in.

Overall I am very happy with the vehicle from what I have seen in the 250+miles I have driven it so far. It drives much better then I had expected with the engine not being as under powered as I had feared. While it is not fast, on the highway it purrs along with adequate power to pass when needed.
Hopefully the wife is not too mad that I drove it so much while she was away, I always offer her the C63 to drive but she refuses to drive it (it scares her).

The nav/radio system in the ML is completely different than the one in your C-class. Probably even different manufacturer. No guarantee, then, that map updates are on the same issue schedule.
