Harman Kardon Bass Speaker

This might seem like an odd question but I noticed in the left rear interior panel of my ML 350 where the 6" bass speaker resides, there is no cutout for the sound to come through??? The foam is cut in a circle on the inside, but there are no holes of any size. Also, I noticed when I turn it up with the panel removed it sounds better. Is it the wrong panel? Should I cut some holes?

Did you get the replacement from a dealer, and if so, for how much? And as to the sound, can you quantify the difference (i.e., fuller, clearer, less muddy, etc.)? I guess the real question is whether you can hear a difference sitting in the driver's seat.

Yes, how much for the panel and any idea what year they added the opening?

With the cover off it sounds better although muddy IMO. Hopefully the sound engineers did it right and the added hole tightens up the bass!

The cost was $150.00 from the dealership.........As for sound, it has quite a bit more bass, certainly more fuller, but to say that you can hear it from the driver's seat, l'm not sure on this....l guess it would depend on the music...The panel became available on the 09 model with the Harman Kardon system...Here is a picture on it .....
