fuel consumption

Hi! I've just taken delivery of a new ML350. After two full tanks of fuel, I am getting an average of 14litres/100km, which I don't think is good, considering 3/4 highway and 1/4 city driving. And 98% of the driving is very light footed. I remembered reading somewhere in the forum that the average figure should be around 11.5 litres/100 km. Is it due to the tightness of the new engine? What's the normal running-in of the engine (km) to get a better fuel consumption? As for the rest, is a great car to drive especially the comfort and the in-cabin quietness.

i can get 22 miles per gallon on the highway but about 3/4 highway and 1/4 city gives me around 20 miles per gallon. i don't know the conversion rate for liters/100km.
