Use the MB OEM filter. Any others have the potential of causing a problem. And no inspite of what you may hear you will notice no difference in power with an aftermarket filter

ML350 air filter

I just replaced my filters with K& N filters...very easy and fit beautifully.
Very simple change....push the metal clip in the center of the filter cover back towards the firewall. It is way back in there...remove the front half of the cover that covers the oil filter housing...gentle pull back on each fresh air tube that goes to the air box until they come out...they can be pushed to the center of the engine....then simple lift up on the box.
The box is held on by 4 spring loaded clips...dont be shy, it will lift off.
Once off, turn it over and loosten the 4 screws on each side to reveal the filters...
