Shocks Leaking

So I just got my tires changed on my 2006 ML350 not airmatic, and they said that the rear shocks are leaking. I have 37k miles. My question is, are the shocks suppose to leak? I kinda doubt it. Also, if I have to change them out, I'm going to do it myself, and I would like to stiffen the suspension a little bit, so do you guys know what aftermarket shocks will fit in my car with a minimum of modifications. I heard about bilstein shocks but can't find any information about whether they would fit in the car or not.

Stay with OEM shocks. However even if you have no warranty I would consider having a dealer have a look and perhaps they can get a warranty exception as the miles are very low for this type of a failure if in fact they are failed.

I had to change my rear shocks around 30 something thousand miles for the same reason. Dealer did it under warranty and had seen this issue several times before.
Went with OEM's so can't advise on the aftermarket stuff.

I am about to change my OEM with Bilsteins B6 offroads, which were introduced - I think- this year.
The OEM shocks are VERY soft and are giving a very unpleasant ride.
I tried to lower the car and changed the springs with H&R sports springs..
NOT a good idea...
I am going back to my original springs with Bilstein absorbers..
I wouldnt keep the OEM absorbers anymore... Not even for a single day...
I will install the Bilsteins within 15 days and have a first experience.
They promised better riding experience harder and safer..
