Check engine light on after bumper cover removal

I have 2008 ML350. I was painting the front bumper cover..
Here's what I have did.

1. removed the front bumper cover and disconnect wire harnesses for fog lamp and temp sensor thingy)
2. I drove like 20 feet w/o bumper cover
3. put back bumper cover

now I started the car and Check engine light is on.
Was I supposed to disconnect the battery when i disconnect wire harnesses?
I'm pretty sure everything was back together.

help me out guys

no need to disconnect the battery during bumper removal. try driving your car, if nothing is wrong, the check engine light will turn off by itself after about 50-100kms.

Can you post the procedures about how to remove the bumper covers? I am thinking about putting in back up sensors, but wish to have instructions about how to remove the bumpers.
Thanks.

These trucks are funny. They moniter everything even if you unplug with the key off, and will throw codes. Swing by the dealer and have them reset.

I had a code show up after I unplugged some wires under the drivers seat to reroute the wiring harness so as to avoid being kicked the kids feet. Truck was off, key out and when I restarted, there was the light!
