Next ML powertrains

From Autoweek:
The Shooting Break also provides the first official clues to the new range of V6 and V8 gasoline engines to be unveiled in August in the facelifted CL, or S-class Coupe as the big two-door will renamed. Developed under the internal title MOVE, the modular 60-degree units use low-pressure turbocharging and piezo-controlled direct injection for improved lean-burn combustion and heat management, along with a claimed 25 percent cut in fuel consumption and emissions from Mercedes-Benz's existing naturally aspirated V6 and V8 engines.
The unit fitted to the Shooting Break is a 3.5-liter V6 rated at 306 hp. It is among two gasoline engines Mercedes-Benz plans to make available in the CLS sedan. The other is a new 4.6-liter V8 with the same twin-turbocharged and direct-injection developments for a claimed 435 hp. They will be joined by a twin-turbocharged 2.1-liter four-cylinder common-rail diesel rated at 204 hp and a turbocharged 3.0-liter V6 diesel making 231 hp.
All engines will be mated to an upgraded version of Mercedes-Benz's 7G-tronic seven-speed automatic transmission, modified to include a stop/start function. Further fuel-saving technology includes brake-energy regeneration and an alternator that decouples during acceleration to lessen the drag on the engine.
Also planned is a range-topping CLS63 AMG performance flagship running Mercedes-Benz's new turbocharged 5.5-liter V8. Set to replace the existing naturally aspirated 6.2-liter V8, it kicks out 544 hp--an increase of 30 hp above today's model. An even more powerful version of the same engine will be offered as part of a so-called performance package upgrade, with 571 hp.
