NAV Upgrade for ML350

NAV Upgrade for ML350
My wife & I are the proud owners of a 2008 ML 350. The car didnt come with NAV or Bluetooth and we were wanting to put these in, OEM of course.
I called the dealer and the parts guy told us that we cannot replace the head unit with a new one because the "wiring" isnt there. All we can do is upgrade what we have.
$493.00 for the Blue-Tooth Module
$990.00 for the NAV
$298.00 for the Update Disc
$300.00 for the labor
Now, that seems a bit excessive. I am not looking to buy like a Pioneer or something...but allot of people are selling brand new units online for about 3K and it has everything. We can't just buy a new controller and call it a day?
Could someone please advise?

Hi I too purchased a ML350 this week 2007 and see NAV on menu. However told I had to purchase DVD, 2009 version is $260 in Houston TX dealer. Let me know what you find out as well and how did you know you did not have NAV? .

Your ML should be prewired for NAV. I know some models like diesel models don't have it. If it's prewired then all you need are the dvd drive, disc, and splitter. I had mine done for $500 on ebay. This was on my previous ML. Installation literally takes 15 mins.

If you decide to get nav here's How you install it.
Installation is same for 06-08 ml, later models should be similar.
Lift the back seat. and see if you see extra black line, if so you're ready to go.
Pic of it installed.
After splitter's in next stop would be to install DVD drive.
Place your hands as shown here then 'snap' it towards you.
Then using a star shaped screw driver remove two screws and pull down on the tabs:
Now all you need to do is install drive using small screws. This is the pic of it when installed.
you should be able to buy a set for around $400 max. I sold mine for $350 last month.

Curious to find out what is involved to retrofit a NAV to non-NAV 2009+ with the new command. From all the threads I have read, many models (at least the E, C, no one ever mentioned the ML)of MB has the GPS pre-wired. It's just a matter of hooking up and turn on the NAV function.

Not for nothing but anyone with a C class, ml, gl, r, can lend you there dvd and clone it and it will work on the drive. we have two gl's and a ml at home and i told my family that why would we pay almost $900.00 on nav disks when only one should work. all you need is toast and a dual layer dvd +r dvd. make an image of the nav disk and burn a copy of the image using ur DL DVD +R. The Blank DVD would cost you about a dollar fifty at a computer store. Just my opinion.
