EGR ML 320CDI

Has anyone changed/cleaned and EGR valve on a ML 320CDI? I have a code P1402 and when I tried to remove the EGR valve it did not seem as straightforward as I expected. WIS makes it look like just two bolts but there seems to be more to it.

Any advice from someone that has done it before would be appreciated.

That code relates to the Diferential Pressure Sensor in the DPF. Usually triggers when you have to crank several times in freezing weather, or a lot of stat stop driving in very cold temps, and your battery is weak.
Nothing to do with the EGR. The code is just a generic code used by OBDII and means several things to different manufactures. The actual codes are proprietary and requires MB Star Diagnosis software to get the true issue.

I am not convinced yet, that the P1402 isnt caused by the EGR in some manner. It might be that the valve not opening is causing the pressure differential as well as an EGR code. P codes are a general system code, there is usually a sub code that only the MFG readers can pinpoint the problem to. I have had the same issue on my Passat, I get a P code, then there are 11 things that could be wrong based on the sub-codes.

If you havent taken it out, it might seem like there is another bolt, however its just the carbon holding it in. If you can get it to wiggle side to side by tapping on the lobe where bolt goes through (I used wooden dowel and small hammer) then just keep working it until you get some movement it will come out.

I got that code about 2 days before I posted, took it to the dealer and got the printout. It is not an EGR thing. It is the differential pressure sensor in the DPF acting up.
Take yours to the dealer or an indie with the Star software and see.
