Rear View camera question...

Yo, I was wondering if there was any way to integrate the rear view camera to be selectable from the NAV console to stay on at all times instead of it turning on only when reverse is selected? An easier way to describe it would be if you could get the rear view camera to stay on 24/7 while driving like the Saleen S7?

You'd be willing to give up everything else displayed on the COMAND screen, i.e. radio channel information, NAV/MAP information, telephone control, updating your clock, etc.? Seems to me that's what "24/7" means.

^ i really don't see what the point is in being deliberately, willfully obtuse when the OP's meaning is clear

you'd have to do some digging around in the wiring, but if it works like any other reverse cam, there is a logic board that is activated by the 12v reverse line, which turns the camera on and automatically switches the input. with MB, that's a pretty big if. it may well be that the COMAND unit gets its info solely from the ecu, canbus etc.

if it were the former, you could run some kind of inline switch from an acc line to that reverse input line and then toggle the switch to simulate the vehicle being in reverse.

i don't see you getting this activated in software or having it selectable via the interface.

just fyi, i've had reverse as a selectable input (on a difference vehicle). the cool factor wears off pretty quick

Heh, I actually wanted to keep the rear view camera on because I happen to get tailgated alot (I blame my pedobear sticking his face out) and the fact that just today I nearly took the front end of an S2000 off because that thing is so small and literally too short to see in the wing mirror while it was riding in the blind spot.

@Ikchris
The keyword is "SELECTABLE"

I think the camera view in COMMAND is turned on by the video signal. So if you hook up the camera to a constant power supply, it should work. The easiest way to control this would be to put in an in-line switch. Or you can use teh setting in COMMAND to manually turn off the camera view.
