Red face Buying 2006 ML320 and need advice...

The 2006 ML320 I'm looking at buying has 110,000 kms (70,000 miles) on the clock. The last W163 I bought had 160,000 kms (100,000 miles) and the insides have fallen apart.

So... should I be worried about a high mileage W164? And what should I be looking out for?

Thanks...

A small number of the '06 ML320 models had engine balance shaft problems. This was taken care of by a recall. Check to make sure your VIN number was/was not included. If it was, was it fixed? Also some had problems with a faulty transmission valve body which caused jerky shifting. Again, check the service records for the one you are buying. I have a friend who has an '06 ML350 with close to 110,000 miles and he hasn't had one problem. I just purchased mine with 17,500 miles on it and so far so good. Love it. Good luck.

2006 ML350 back from dealer after 4 weeks, now back for oil consumption test!,2003 C230 Sport
Just some advice. One check suspension. There is an TSB on front control arms. Two check oil change records,we are having mystery problem of too much oil usage. Car is going on oil consumption program. Three have the motor check for oil leaks. My SUV had two small leaks. These are all the problems that I have had so far with my 06 Ml 350. The total at service $3000. Thank god for warranties.

A number of 2006 owners (I'm an ex owner) have complained about harsh transmission changes from 2-1 in particular. To reproduce gradually slow to a near stop (like a parking situation) and just before the car stops if you feel it kick into first and the increased torque causes it to lurch forward then consider if you will be happy with this.

I'd give the transmission a good work out on hills, under pressure and not before committing. There are a number of TSBs and software upgrades available. Some owners have had good, and some bad, experience at working through the list and finally resolving the issue.

Good luck.

I got similar problem with oil consumption and dealer solved with replacing intake seal (around turbo area) - you have similar thread about it in forum.

I was thinking about some problem with gasket seal etc but it went much better for me or dealer (car is still under warranty)

Airmatic can be costly to repair after warranty. My compressor and other parts were replaced at just under 4 years. I also had the balance shaft sprocket issue on my 350, but not sure if that was also on the CDI.

There was a recall?
Where can I find a copy of the recall notice?

Seriously?

People actually buy +100 000 Km Mercedes???

I have an in-warranty one and it would be a cold day in hell before I ever owned one that was (a) out of warranty or (b) high mileage.

Carlos, dont quite understand what you are telling this guy. You have had quite a number of W164's and keep buying them. I had a 2006 ML500 that was absolutly bullet proof.
