ML 320 2001 dash lights on, and transmission not shifting.

ML 320 2001 dash lights on, and transmission not shifting.
Correction and addition to previous post….
In my previous post I said the dash board lights were flashing, NO, they are not, lights are on, without flashinig.
Tonight he test-drove the car and found out that the transmission is not shifting, it stays on 2nd gear, othe gear the car takes off on................... Can someone help out,, please?
Anyone with that sort of experience would be very helpful indeed.
