what would happen if u engage into R whilst driving
Hey guys so I'm driving a 2011 300CDI and because itsa european car the stalk where u put the car into drive reverse is on the side where indicators would noramlly be for a japanese car and i was wondering what would happen if u accidentally use the stalk and engage it into reverse accidentally thinking it was the indicator???
does the car know that if its in drive that if u do engage it into reverse that it won't let u???? I'm asking cos my mum might be driving this car and mistake it for an indicator seeing as its on this side in her car. thanks!!!

I will comment on just the automatic transmission design concept, If you are travelling in a forward gear above ,say 10mph or higher, if you attempt to switch into reverse it will not go into that gear untill you slowdown or come to a stop. these transmissions are expensive, I have not tried to confirm that, I did confirm that on other vehicles.

Per the owner's manual, the engine control system electronically limits directly shifting the automatic transmission between drive position D and reverse gear R to very low speeds, i.e. approximately 5 mph (9 km/h). Hope this helps.

you can put the vehicle in neutral while driving at any speed, however can not put in reverse if moving above 5mph...I confirmed this on a loaner from the dealership....

thanks guys thats awesome news!!!! I was afraid if it were to happen by accident it would be an expensive repair!!!! Good to know it wont engage at higher speeds and what a way to test it on a test car hahahaha!!
