Acceleration issue

i was driving my ml350 last night and hit a big pot hole and thats when my acceleration on the car started to give me issue it would take a few seconds before it response. So i parked the car turned it off and turnn it back on and the check engine light appeared. Now the car will take like 2 seconds to accelerate. Got home woke up this morning still the same issue. is there anything i can do without seeing my expensive mechanic and if not what should he be telling me

If you have access (or know someone who does) to a code reader you can see what codes your car throws. If you don't have this option available to you your best bet is a mechanic to do this for you. Some places will read the codes for you for free.

When the Check Engine Light or CEL goes off, most any car today will send an error code to the car computer which contains a code for what problem set off the CEL. These are kept in memory for a while and can be read easily. Often a mechanic knows exactly what part failed and should be replaced or repaired.
