Multiple cracks on top of engine

OK so I just changed my air filters. Approaching the 40K mark so I figured it is time. What was really crazy is what the passenger side top part of the engine looked like. Right next to oil fill hole and behind towards the spark plugs I noticed multiple cracks to the metal. What is up with that? See pictures. I am guessing I should demand that the dealer replaces to entire top of the engine right, while still under warranty? What is that part called exactly? Cylinder head cover? The cracks seemed to be spreading towards the back as well where the spark plugs are...

wow, that is absolutely messed up. I've never seen that before.
Keep us posted in what happens at the dealer and hopefully the cause of it too!

A few members from other forums said this is quite normal- casting imperfections. I'll have it look at and keep you informed

Do not believe they are cracks either. Appear to be some inperfections in the molds that are used to manufacture these parts. I have seen similar lines etc in cast aluminum parts for lots of different machinery. Quite common.
