differential needs replacement @ 26k miles!!!

first time writing on the ml forum, just wanted to find out if you guys have had this problem and how common it is. I have a '06 ML 350 with 26,000 miles. I bought it new and now i brought it in for service because of a noise i was hearing upon decceleration from about 70 mph, and the SA states i need a new front diff @ $3,650. the "truck" was only driven to drop my kid to and from school...WTF!!! waranty just ran out any advice would be appreciated

Contat MB USA.

Perhaps there is a "hidden" warranty in effect if the Front Diff is a common problem?

If not, 26,500 miles is low enough to raise serious hell and perhaps take legal action.

Heads up: Keep a warranty on these expensive cars.

Thanks. I may have the same issue on my '06 at about 55k. Taking it in on the 15th. How much did you pay for labor?

Seems to be an increasingly common one on '06s. Other cases here: http://www.benzworld.org/forums/w164...ial-noise.html

Driveline noise

Nothing much new to report. Took the car in yesterday, tech could not hear the issue. Went back again today, took the service manager for a drive and he acknowledged he heard what I was hearing, but nothing definitive, except probably not a wheel bearing or brakes. They were supposed to put it up on a lift today and listen to it, but didn't get to it. At this point, I'm just going to ask that this be documented and wait to see if it gets worse.

Update - I'm in the bad front diff club

Took the car back today. Got the call a little while ago that they found metal shavings in the diff oil. Let the fun begin! Dealer has offered to pay 1/2 the parts, leaving me still with $3k bill. I called MBUSA and will report back on whether they agree to participate.

MBUSA called today and ais basically no help. Can't do anything more for me. I have a meeting with the dealer service manager tomorrow.
