ipod kit wire is broken (pic attached)

I just currently purchased an 08 ML350 and i just went to try out the ipod kit that came with the car, when i connect the ipod, the ipod begins to charge and thats about it, i cannot control the ipod from the controls on the steering wheel or have any volume output, my question is, do i have to get a whole new kit or is there a way to replace the wire or the head of the adapter

Can't see much in the picture, but the cable is available as a separate item. It has the Apple 30 pin on one end and an RJ45 on the other end.

basically the black cable was somehow cut apart, any idea as to where to find the cable or a model number? im continuing to search for it but all i found was a 30pin wire extender which seems like a possibility if i open up one end and solder the wires to the new ones

This is a dealer only item. Just go into the dealership and tell them you need a new cable. A good parts guy can look it up on the computer. I would look it up , but the system uses the VIN of your car to help determine part numbers. It takes a bit of time, so best just to walk into the dealership with your old cable. Undo the lower plastic panel above passenger feet and you will see it. Unplug the far end and remove from glove box. Take it in, so the parts guy can clearly see it.
