Hello everyone.........
l have had a creaking noise for the last few months that seems to be coming from my center console........l tried spraying some silicone between the center section which houses the cupholders and the side and let it pool down, which was mentioned by another poster, but it still creaks.........l know it is coming from this area, because when l grasp the right side grab handle area and pull it towards me, the sound disappears.........Any thoughts ????

Is there another dealer you can go to?
This is not a cheap Hyundai SUV and you should insist that the creaking sound be fixed.

Right now, I am in Europe (for vacation) and used taxi a few times. The last MB taxi were with 500,000 km and 700,000 km and no problems - I still remember when taxi driver speed up to overtake car - almost same as my ML320 CDI. On top gas consumption is bellow 5 l/100 km (above 50 mpg).
Enough said about today cars ...

I did not in any way belittle Hyundai but simply made a comparison on the price difference between a M-B and a Huyndai.
The current Hyundai vehicles are all very highly regarded by JD Powers and Consumer Reports.
They have overtaken the Japanese makes and are more adventurous in their new vehicle designs and introduce new technologies like DI.
I have test driven several Hyundai vehicles like the Genesis, Sonata, Elantra and am very impressed.
I have also owned and driven many Hondas over the past 20+ years and they have all been very reliable.
This is also my first M-B after over 20 years (my last one was a S380 in 1987).
What I am saying is that for the high premium price that we are paying for the privilege of driving an M=B we should expect a higher quality and better service should we encounter any issues.
I do not have brand loyalty and will not hesitate to switch brands if I am dissatisfied with the vehicle I am driving.

If you lift the console lid, there is a vertical textured plastic insert that faces the radio. Remove this (it clips in place), and you can access two screws that hold the wood insert/cupholders in place. Remove that, and perhaps you can locate the issue?

Carlos:
Have not experienced any issues with my 10 ML550 and had none with the 06 ML500 I had prior. However in the past when I had an issue like yours I made certain that the SA heard the noise and asked him ,after the repair ,to take the car home, drive it like it was his and confirm that the noise was gone. He was pleased to do it and on several occassions put it back in the shop for further correction. Perhaps you should do this also.

As for my next car which is about 2 years in the future. I am not certain. As much as I love my ML550 I may go the route of a sedan. Perhaps a new S Class , CLS or perhaps an E550. Not certain yet. This ML550 is my 4th ML since 98 (98, 02, 06 and this 10). I do not really have the requirement for an SUV as I have sold my boat and the ML was originally for hauling all my fishing stuff and to use for our dog. Well boats gone and the dog died. Find myself driving our 2010 E350 much of the time.
Did you take another driving vacation this summer with the family?

I'm sorry about your dog...............and driving a wonderful E-Class doesn't sound so bad............As for our trips this year..my family and I visited Las Vegas in March and did the whole Grand Canyon, Hoover Dam thing..quite cool and in May we went to Paris for a week and l gained the most glorious 15 pounds in my entire life !!!!!! As for my next vehicle, l may be tempted to purchase a Porsche Cayenne S............Take care.............
At this point I am leaning towards an S Class depending on what the new ones look like. They are due in about a year and a half. As for the Cayenne, friend of mine had one (2010) and ended up with a give back to the dealer. Could not keep it out of the shop not for trivial items but major ones. At one point we swapped cars for a week. I was not impressed at all, uncomfortable, cramped, rattles, and was a slug. Also did not care for the dash and control lay out. My friend ened up with an ML550 and is very pleased.
