command head unit backlights

All the backlights on my head unit turn off when i turn the unit off even with my headlights on. Is it normal? Can anybody confirm this?

Not sure if I am understanding your question but if you turn the unit off it does just that. Nothing stays on the screen.

I was referring to buttons on the head unit. When you turn the unit off at night while the headlights are one, are buttons remain illuminated?

Thanks

When the head unit is off, multifunction display doesn't show the status of audio and nav. When it is on, you should see all the stats on your multifunction display.

It just looks better. The same reason buttons stay on in the C or E class. Also I noticed if the head unit is off, back up camera won't engage.

On BMW, if you turn radio off, only radio off, you still able do other things like phone, navi, access to setting etc.
6 mths ago I bought a 2011 BMW 550i, all I have to say Mercedes is 3 to 5 yrs behind BMW on technologies and designs. BMW company build their products like Apple does.
No wonder Apple and BMW sell more.
My 2011 only 20,000k miles, I'm on 50/50 to keep until factory warranty expire or trade in BMW X5 5.0 next yr.

On my 2008 ML350, the circular "Power" and rectangular "Eject" button remain lit. All other lights are off.
