I replied to your other post. YOU ARE IN THE WRONG FORUM. You my dear have a W163 ML500(first generation), this is the W164(second gen) forum.

You also have not provided enough info about the problem, it can be any number of things. It can be a bad fuel pump, clogged fuel filter or even the immobilizer not allowing the car to start because of a fault in the system.

Myriad of things that could cause your issue. Some of the others are bad CPS or Cam position sensor, bad key, bad key sensor etc etc. Rather than just throwing parts at it and guessing I would have it correctly diagnosed by a dealer or an indy with the Star system and go from there.

I was told to try the crank position sensor. What do you think?

I had a Cam position sensor replaced and that is a known problem with our ML.

I noticed that when starting it started taking just a few sec. longer to kick over. Seemed worse when it was colder out. then I went out one morning to leave and it just kept trying to start. It would keep trying till it stoped on it own. It will not kick over. I can hear the fuel pump kick on, the shredder valve has a good flow of fuel so I dont believe it's a fuel issue. The battery has a full charge too. Really puzzled.

Like I said before, spend a few bucks and have it diagnosed correctly or keep walking, your choice!

I would suggest that you have it taken to the stealership and let them check it out. When I had problems with the cam sensor it would start and then the engine would die after a certain amount of time, even when I was driving which is not good at all, very dangerous.

Thanks for the advise but it doesn't die on me it won't start. I will look into it though. Have you had any issues with the crank position sensor?

Not being nasty. Just wonder why you need so many guesses on repairing your ML. Just have the thing diagnosed correctly and repaired. As I said before there are a myriad of items that would cause your ML not to start.
