2007 ML 320 CDI "Ticking" sound from engine

Hi
Have got a kind of ticking sound from engine on my 2007 ML 320 CDI , just like valve ticking which it isn't.
Any clue what this can be? Have got a suggestion that it can be the belt tensioner pulley. Any experience with this problem??

Kind regards & Merry Christmas
Per- Norway

I had a similar sound that went away when I replaced my serpentine belt. Never had that fix this sound in any vehicle I owned or worked on in the past.
How many miles, and when did the noise start?

Hi

It have about 80000 miles on it, and have been like this since i bought it 8 months ago. Have got a tip that it most likely could be the serpentine belt tensioner. Any other tips??

Try rplacing the belt first. They start to show cracks at around 80000 miles. It fixed my ticking issue.

I trust you are aware of the diesel knock that all diesels have.
With the CDI, it is so well insulated you do not hear it inside the car but from the outside it still knocks like any diesel.

I have a slight ticking noise also along with a belt tensioner that is making a clicking type noise and bounces around more then I like too. I believe my ticking noise is valve lifter related and oil related, it started when I switched to Total oil. I only have this brand (5 cases) for now, I might pick up something else in the meantime to see if it is infact oil brand related, it did not tick when I purchased the vehicle nor after the first couple of oil changes with Valvoline. It could just be wear and tear also, I have 90ish miles (142kms). The smart cdi has lots of valve lifter failures here, I wonder about the quality of the lifters mercedes has sourced for their diesels...
Your noise could also be electrical solenoids cycling they do make a lot of ticking noises, mine is too irregular to be electrical and follows rpm exactly, drivers side of engine best heard around the front wheel well (probably rear of engine).
