08 ML320cdi- going to change F.filter & use Liquimoly Diesel purge?

I'm going to change the fuel filter soon for the 1st time myself. I've read about people filling the new filter with Liquimoly Diesel Purge to prime the filter instead of diesel and to give the fuel system & injectors a good cleaning? Anyone do this? Or think its a bad idea that concentrated in the engine all at once? My ML has 77k, all maint.current, will do at 80k with air filters.

Using anything other than diesel you run the risk of ruining the particulate filter. I agree that diesel purge does work, however, not sure I would use it on a newer diesel with particulate filter.

Don't fill the new fuel filter with the Liquid Moly Diesel Purge.

The instructions for this product are quite clear: "Diesel purge is easy to use. Just pour into your tank or follow the simple instructions on the bottle."

and

"A second 500 ml container may be added to the fuel tank."

This fluid is not meant to take the place of diesel fuel, but as a supplement to be added to diesel fuel.

My question is what drivability condition are you trying to address (i.e. is your engine running rough, stalling, knocking under moderate load, etc.)?

MB does not recommend any diesel fuel additive. I personally have put over 409,000 miles on a diesel without any additives and without rebuilding injectors or an injector pump. My present MB diesel (2010 ML) just turned over 120,000 miles with out the use of fuel supplements and operates quite satisfactory.

I am not sure what you are trying to gain unless you have a condition that you are trying to address. If there is a condition, is it accompanied by a CEL?

No problems, just going to change the fuel filter soon, read about others doing this. With 77k figure it might help to clean the injectors a bit. The highest mpg I've gotten on a hwy trip driving it gently at 70mph was just over 25mpg, read of others getting much better? Maybe to stay on the safe side, I should just dump it in the tank & prime the fuel filter with just diesel...

No real need to prime, just replace filter. It will crank a little longer but it will fire. Also dont leave the bleed screw open (like I did) otherwise you will have a diesel fountain under the hood
