Right now the boat is in storage in upstate NY. We plan on opening up the summer home soon (lakehouse), and need to get the boat about 25 miles from the marina to our place.
I am probably going to end up getting an aftermarket hitch from online (I found a few around $200 or so), and installing it myself in order to avoid the ridiculous price that my dealer would charge to install one. But, my question is, how difficult is it to hook up the wires and wire harness? Would you think my MB is pre-wired? Or would I have to run them the whole way my self? And how difficult would this be?
Or, do you think that it is just better to drive the 25 miles without trailer lights and risk the ticket?
Thanks all!

Ticket could be cheaper than a rear SAM unit that you need to drive the lights etc

My advice is to contact e-trailer, on line. I bought my hitch kit and the electronic device needed to make my 07 ML350 work correctly from them. I think they are reliable, easy to deal with and fair priced.
I have had a little electronic and mechanical experience but certainly no one's expert. It went flawlessly and correct on the first try.
I also recommend doing a you tube search... maybe you will get lucky.
