Happened yesterday, was driving on highway for about 10 minutes, turned off to a gas station. As I pulled slow down and stopped, I pressed the gas and was stuck again in 3rd gear. Had to restart vehicle for it to function properly

Can I as you what did you do to repair this problem? I have an 07 ML320 Cdi That won't shift out of either 1st or 2nd gear. One of my codes is the P0718.
Any help would be appreciated.

I had a similar condition with my 2006 ML350 at around 90,000 miles and 5 years of age. The cause turned out to a the transmission conductor plate.

Dealer replaced the plate, updated the software and the problem has not happened since. Now have about 170,000 miles.

Don't know the cost since it was covered with the CPO & extended warranty.

Hope this helps.

I had a similar problem with my 2006 ML500. Problem occurred earlier this year at approx. 140000km.

Problem was due to a faulty speed sensor on the transmission conductor plate.

I avoided the stealership and had a independent MB specialist remove the plate and send it away for repair. Total cost was approx one third of what MB wanted for a new conductor plate.
