Low beam halogen - Record

Few weeks back, one of the low beam headlights stopped. This is a record in my ownership of a vehicle in the last 12 years that a headlight has blown. Thanks Mercedes.

Anyways, I open up the lamp unit and discover it has a Philips lamp, and I order a set from Ebay that is LL (Long lasting). When I receive the box and open it, I am in shock as out comes two small red boxes with Hyundai OEM written all over them. Apparently Hyundai is also using the same headlamp - Philips 12972LL.

Thought I'd share the tidbit with fellow members here.

This is a standard "H7" style bulb with a stronger element (Hence LL).

In addition to Hyundai the H7 is used by: BMW, Audi, VW, Land Rover, Bentley, Rolls Royce, Chevrolet, Ford, Chrysler, Kia, Honda, Toyota and a whole host of other manufacturers.

My guess is that whomever provided the bulb purchased from the least expensive source at the time for general resale. Cheers.

In 2 years and 35,000 miles I have changed the headlight bulbs 3 times.
I've also noticed that the automatic headlight setting turns on the lights more often than I would normally so I have begun using them manually. Interestingly if you leave the lights in the on position they will turn off with the car as well.

I do the same. First noticed this problem when I used the DRL setting so my "cool" LED string would be on.

Interestingly, MB calls this the "blue sky" effect...some how the sensor is fooled to turn on headlights in full bright sun.

Is it ironic, or intentional: Blue Sky = abbreviated as BS !!!
