Alternative entertainment system?

So I chose not to get my 2011 ML350 pre-wired for the entertainment system and now my kids are about to turn two and we'll turn their car seats around.
At the time I told my wife they can each get an ipad...but that doesn't seem a good idea now since they could easily drop it and break it.

So should I go back to my dealer and get outfitted for the system or are there other better alternatives out there for our MLs?
I haven't done any extensive research yet....

Thanks for the advise in advance!

For the cost of the entertainment system, you could probably replace the Ipads at least once. There are cases for Ipads, such as Otterbox that are virtually indestructible. Just my .02

I got same question a few years back and my installer told me that it doesn't worth money to do all those things including aftermarket unit with dual zone - I put very nice Kenwood DNX-9140 unit along with JBL MS-8 amplifier (to avoid rewiring speakers) and I happy on front seat. As for passengers on back seat (read: kids), they got different kind of entertainment (DVD, tablet,...) which I don't have to maintain too much - if you go with headrest option, you are reducing space on back and children are growing - the question of time when something is going be broken
