2008 Mercedes Benz ML350
Front Shock Replacement

Hello, i am new to the MBworld forums! i came from bmw. I am hoping mbworld can be as resourceful as e90post.com was =).

I have a 2008 Mercedes Benz ML350 4matic, and the front drivers side shock busted and started to leak oil. I decided to replace this myself.

Is there a DIY on here that can help? or if there is no DIY, can someone provide me with:

1. Torque Specs for each bolt or where to find
2. Strut Diagram for when i rebuild the strut.

I am facing the same service. Mine are not leaking, they just bounce over stuff a GMC Yukon with 120k miles on original shocks goes straight over without deflecting. Bought yellow Bilstein HD to replace the original "comfort" Bilsteins. Figured if the originals were still like new, I didn't like them, and if they were shot then I still didn't like them having lasted less than 45k miles. So I bought different.

Others have said if one is in the USA and registers with MBUSA.com as an owner there is access to online service manuals. Their website is Macintosh antagonistic so I haven't made the time to borrow a Windows machine to see if I can drill down to useful information. If you figure out how please let me know.

I'm facing a leaking front strut also. I need to swap it out and was wondering if anyone has the steps to perform. In looking at it I think one aspect of the job will be to pop the upper control arm ball joint. But is there anything else I will need to consider before getting into it.
We are a non- active dampening system and its 2008 ML350
Thanks for your help

You will need a heavy duty strut spring compressor. Looks pretty typical strut setup.

www.alldatadiy.com might have some good tools, pretty cheap annual fee for good information.

What's the mileage on the LocTong ML? I have a"new" ML 08 350 with 43500 on it-just got it. Ride seems a bit stiff. Registering with MBUSA to try to get the manual-friend is an Audi mech If I need to change in the future. Also have a Honda PIlot with 151000 ORIGINAL front shocks. rear replaced at 120000. What's with the ML shocks that they can't last?? Consumers list the ML350 08's suspension as one of the big problem areas-of course that includes the weak steering rack system they shoved in to save $$$.
