Much difference on 19"s?

Guys,

Finding the ride very hard on my 2008 ML 320 cdi withe the 20" wheels with 40 profile tires. Has anyone scaled down to 19"s with a 55 profile tire, is there much difference. I am on standard spring suspension no airmatic for me!

My Ml320cdi came stock with 255/50-19's. It rides fine. I was thinking about buying 245/55-19's when time for new tires. Will raise it about 4mm, slightly skinnier tire better in rain, hair taller feeling gearing mpg+?, slightly taller sidewall should ride even better.

My Ml320cdi came stock with 255/50-19's as well. The only problem were the Conti's that needed replacing at 17,000 miles.

After researching decided on these Yokohama's. Have 7,000 miles on them and they still look new.
