06 ml350 " Go to Workshop "

Hello,
Kinda new to Forums. But I did search for the answer to my question in the archives.
My father has a 2006 ML350, around 62000 miles on it. His " Go to Workshop " light stays on. The light is white in color, and not red. He says he has never disconnected the battery. From the info I get, the vehicle has 2 batteries, 1ea main and 1ea smaller one for electronic memory, tranny shift when main battery is dead.

My question's are. 1. Can an individual reset this light, without taking
the vehicle to a dealership for service.

2. Could it be that the smaller battery is going bad ?

I just need a yes or no answer, on these two questions. When I did my search, and was looking through the forums/archives. I couldn't really get a yes or no response. Any help would be appreciated !! Thank You !!

I had the same thing on my '06 some years ago, the problem turned out to be that one of the batteries was going bad.

It was the smaller one under the passenger's seat. You can check the condition of the battery with load tester or multimeter to see whether it has gone bad or the problem is somewhere else.

I think I remember seeing if a white battery light cones on it means the small back up battery is bad. If the red battery light comes on it means the large main battery is bad. I recently had to replace my main one. I never got the workshop message though, but mine is an 08? They're not that hard to change, just a little time consuming & pain in the rear.

Can you tell me if i can replace the small battery without removing the large battery. If i hook up a trickle charger to the jump post will i keep the codes working for the radio, garage opener etc?
Thanks

When I researched the directions on here before changing my battery, I remember seeing to leave 1 or the other connected to preserve the memory. Just try not to disconnect both at the same time. Don't see a need for the charger if only changing them out.
I do occasionally hook up a Battery Tender to my ML just at the under hood connections, if I haven't driven it in more than a week. Works great.
