Unhappy Autozone installs poltergeist with battery: Bizarre electrical errors, help!

Just had the battery changed at Autozone in our 2009 ML320 Bluetec. Bizarre problems immediately ensued.

The OBD connector has no power.

The turn signal switch does not activate turn signals

The steering wheel adjustor does not have power

The cruise control does not work

I can't see the display right now, but it has messages like this:

Display says there is a right passenger front SRS malfunction

Display says SOS inactive or inoperative

Display says something about safety pre-checks

The emergency flashers do work

The car starts and drives fine

Autozone has no idea what it has done and says the OBD has no power because the battery was dead and we need to take it somewhere where they have a code reader with power to "force power in it and reset it."

All worked fine prior to battery change. Help!

Was your small auxiliary backup battery dead? Or did they unhook it?

I bought Autozone battery a couple months ago. I didn't trust them to change it. Took it home, did it myself, then took old one back to them for the credit. No problems. But I made sure not to disconnect the small backup battery.

Suppose they did disconnect the small battery backup. And failed to reconnect it. What to do?

That could be the reason for all the problems. There was no power to save the computer settings. I'd take to dealer or good Indy to have them check the backup battery & restore your computer settings.

To the left side of the battery is a fuse and relay module. They probably knocked a connector loose from the bottom of it during the hack job install. Remove the covers and check it out. You may have to remove the battery to reconnect them.

If they would have disconnected the small battery you would not be able to shift the vehicle out of park.
