2011 Mercedes ML350 and Homelink

I've scoured the forums and tried a millions solutions but for the life of me, cannot figure this out.

I just got a 2011 Mercedes ML350 and it has Homelink. I moved into my current home in 2007, so construction probably began 2005 or 2006. The garage door system is an Allstar by MVP, which says it is Homelink compatible. I've followed all instructions in the Mercedes manual, videos I've found on YouTube and things other people on here have tried, but I cannot get the Homelink to work at all.

Specifically, I press the outer buttons and the yellow light flashes rapidly. After that, I hold the garage door remote the necessary distance from the mirror and select a Homelink button on the mirror. However, pressing the Homelink button while also pressing the requisite button on the garage door opener only leads to the yellow light flashing about once a second. It never begins flashing rapidly.

This is driving me crazy! Has anyone else had this issues and solved it?

Although 2007 seems a bit early, is the opener the "newer" Homelink communications protocol? If so you may need to add one of those little relay boxes called a repeater in your garage that translates from vehicle to opener.

I researched this when I replaced my three garage door openers. Ended up not putting in the newest openers out there since none of my 2010 vehicles would be able to talk to them. Even though Homelink published their new specs years ago many manufacturers haven't adopted it.

I can't remember, but I think googling the color of the learn button on the opener itself will lead you to answers. For some reason I think the color identifies the communication protocol, but as I mentioned there is a "newer" protocol, most manufactures haven't added it to their vehicles and another box or repeater may be necessary. You can also google Homelink repeater.

Also, have you tried the two step protocol..... Program remote to mirror and then push learn button on opener to sync mirror to opener? Sounds like you can't get that far though.

Good luck

I cracked the case. Turns out I just had to be closer to the garage door unit than I was. After that, the instructions went off without a hitch.

Training buttons on rear view mirror for garage door opener

I have a 2008 ML 320 CDI, a 20011/2012 model Sky Link garage door opener and have not been able to train the buttons on the underside of the rear view mirror to operate the garage door opener.
I have repeatedly followed all of the instructions in both manuals very carefully and the vehicle was parked as close as it can get to the opener and still no success.
However, 3 standard after market remote controls I have been able to train successfully.

Hmm, it is odd. This afternoon, I was successfully able to program the buttons under the mirror on my dad's 2007 S550, my 2011 ML350 and my dad's non-Mercedes pickup truck. However, when my mom got home, I was unable to program the buttons under the mirror on her 2009 GL320. I was doing exactly what I did for the other three cars and moved them as close to the garage as could be, but with no luck. I'll try again tomorrow.

I think Homelink manufactures the actual transmitters used by all vehicle manufacturers. Its how they collect royalties.
