Mobil1 Formula M 5W-40 with Mobil1 0W-40

ML 350 4MATIC 2011.
How bad idea to mix leftover 0.5 Qt of Mobil1 0W-40 with 8 Qt of Mobil1 Formula M 5W-40.
The 1 Qt of 0W-40 I have left from last Oil change. Of course I can buy 1 more Qt of Mobil1 Formula M 5W-40, but I want to know if safety for the engine. Thank you.

This a diesel? If so,
you do see the section in the owners manual and the sticker on the engine radiator support that says do not mix ANY amount of non spec oil...
The oils have 2 different Ash formulations, and your DPF will suffer premature failure. (They are still in the $3000 range)

Better to leave the 8 qts of Formula M that's in there pure, and not top it up. (Like the dealers do)

I assumed he had a gas engine since he didn't say Bluetec. If diesel, make sure u use the specific MB grade (229.51), at least for my 08 diesel. I only think they make 5w30 & 5w40 that I've seen in that spec. If he has a gas engine, a 1/2qt of 0w40 mixed in won't make any difference as long as the right spec oil for his engine.

Engine type: 272,967 it is not a Diesel, it is a gas engine

MB Sheet for both oil is 229.5. The only deference is one is 0W and other is M 5W. Either oil MB approved for engine type 272. Just wanna know if any negative result may be done to engine with kind of mix.
Thank you for reply.
