ML 2006 Not Shifting Gears from Parking
Hi Guys,
I have a 2006 ML500 and the battery died a couple of days ago.
I jumped it with my other car and then started my car and it turned on.
Then i tried to change from Parking to Drive/Reverse/Neutral but it does not work.
I have also replaced both the big battery and secondary/auxillary battery.
What can be the problem? Please help me.
Thank you.

Looks like the little battery needed to be charged before installing. This is from a TSB
Group: 54
SUBJECT:
MY-All, Models 164, 221, and 251 Replacing Additional Battery
To ensure maximum service life of a new additional battery (G1/7) and to prevent consequent damage, any additional battery must be charged before being installed in a vehicle.
The measured voltage of the additional battery must be checked before installation and it must be at least 12.8 V without load.
Voltage Test and Charging Time
Only additional batteries which have a measured voltage of at least 12.0 V without load are allowed to be recharged.
Recharging must be carried out with a constant, limited charging voltage of Umax = 13.8 V with a charge time of under 1 hour.
Required Charger

C230 Sport Coup + 2006 W164 ML350 + 99 Ford Escort (What the heck, it gets 38 mpg!)
So that being said, what problems if any can result from disconnecting both batteries?
I need to disassemble steering column to replace the shift mechanism, and don't want to throw an SRS code and was thinking of disconnecting both batteries....
Recently replaced both, but kept constant power on primary while replacing the little one.
What happens when both are disconnected?
On 2006 ML350 fyi.
