Folks, I have a 2008 ML 320 CDI. A couple of weeks ago the RR door ajar alarm cam on while driving. Took it to an indy and they indicated that the door latch sending unit was defective and a replacement is $775 Cdn!! With labour it will be about $1K...for a door latch.

Any thoughts on how I can lessen the hit to my wallet?? I was thinking that it could be as simple as a lose wire but have not starting perusing other potential fixes.
