Did my mechanic do this...Tranny gone?
I have a 1999 MB ML430 200K miles. All was good until I turned a corner and the tranny went into limp mode. Got it to the nearest mechanic and he diagnosed it as the conductor plate. We waited on the the parts, he claimed he order two weeks earlier. During that time he said he would seal up the tranny and the plug so we could take it home because he needed the room in his shop (two blocks away). We got it home and noticed a very steady leak coming from transmission. We refused to drive it back to his shop, well i wasn't going to because it wouldn't go into gear. However he came and got it. He fixed the conductor plate, new plug and harness. He did show us small metal shaving on the conductor plate, no chunks, just a little metallic in color. Took it home and there was that leak AGAIN! He took it back to his shop and said the front end seals had blown due to the mileage, the pressure and having weak old seals. NOW, I'm extremely P.Oed because now that he has pulled the tranny to seal up everything, he's saying my tranny is bad!!! Said there is some sort of sleeve or something that broke causing all of this. I don't want to believe all this could be happening! Wouldn't he have determined my tranny was bad when this all started?????? Could he have cause damage to my transmission when removing or replacing it after it was pulled?

Turned a corner and went to accelerate and it seems as if it went into neutral . Turned off the car and I was able to drive it again. When backing out of my drive afterwards, it went into reverse ok but then couldn’t get it to go into gear without shutting off the car. This happened a few times before he cleared the codes.
