ML350 bluetec engine issue after intake replacement
#4
Intake motor (only 1) is located outside the intake manifolds. Its located somewhat underneath the turbo - in between the V banks of the cylinder heads. Some skilled mechanics can actually replace this intake motor (aka swirl motor servo) without removing the intake manifold. What is inside the manifolds are just vanes that look like butterfly valves on each cylinder. The valves could get stuck because of carbon buildup - that might be why it had to be opened. Did the indy tell you they could have bypassed the servo motor with a simple resistor and saved you $$ ? These OM642 motors are not known to fail like you describe. Yes they can easily go 120K as long as it is maintained by competent mechanics. Most catastrophic failures like yours are usually caused by human error. Sorry about your loss. Have the oil pan dropped - if possible - be present when that is done. You might find real gold in the oil pan . Kidding aside - to make sure what actually caused the problem.
