Front strut knocking airspring or shocker?
I have a W164 CDI the front driver side strut is knocking over bumps when in comfort mode not sport mode. Anyone experienced this? is it the shocker or airspring unit?
No oil appears to be leaking from outside.
When a shock leaks does it do so on the outside visible from the bottom of the airspring down the shaft of the strut or does the leak occur on the top of the shocker inside the airspring so therefore hidden from view unless the airspring unit is removed?
Any feedback would be great.
Thanks
You will not see any leaks from the front shocks since the oil will stay inside the airspring.
In your case I think the first step would be to change the connecting rod, see attatched picture. It´s an easy inexpensive DIY job, you should of course change both sides.
Good Luck!

Thanks.....assumed the oil would stay inside the air spring so cannot tell.Is there any way to tell if it is the connecting rod? I have noticed that when reversing after car sits for long time approx 8hrs there is a single knock when reversing and turn wheel left hand down to get out of park spot.
Is there anything I can try to tell if it is connecting rod before replacing?
Is there any test for shock absorber to see if it is the shocker?
Have you got part number for the connecting rod or does it go by a different name?
