New Bluetec Oil Leak SOLVED! Scanned forums never seen before...

Hi All,

I figured I need to share my story.

Had a large drip occuring and soaking my entire passenger side undercarriage.

It was being flung by the passenger axle EVERYWHERE and almost impossible to trace back anywhere.

I pulled my oil cooler knowing that that has to be the fault. Nope, already had the purple seals FML!

So it kept going until I sprayed everything with degreaser and wiped it all off, and let it idle until I followed the leak.

It lead me to the oil pan bolts!! it wasnt the bolts for the pan though, it was the perpendicular bolt right above the oil pan. Theres either 4 or 5 on each size of the block large size external torx. IT WAS LOOSE!!! I mean barely finger tight!!

I snugged it back up lightly and will observe for leaks over the next few days. Will use loctite if it loosens again.

Anyone EVER have this issue?

2011 E350 Bluetec
Folks,
let us collect the data on the Bluetec. I have search ~40 cars on cars.com and found 20 cars with leaks and torn seats (from CarFax report on the site). Please add your car or any you know to the list. There is no such record of engine failure for any other car in the industry. M-B should recall the bluetecs and offer full repair and warranty.

As a Material Scientist, I was stunned by the choice of material in that gasket. I never suspected anyone in Germany (one of the top countries in materials engineering) would do such a mistake rather than by Mercedes-Benz who has over 80 years of experience with diesel engines and have actually produced the best diesel engines in the world. Worse, the gasket is located deep in the engine that it would take a skilled technician between 25 to 35 hours to repair it, according to experts!M-B should have not used anything but metal gasket in that location.
Here is the list, please add yours and submit your case to the Attorney General

Are you reffering to bolts highlighted on photo below?
I think that I have same issue you had. I have oil leak on passenger side and I can't locate it, but from bottom looks like it is from the bolt.

Those appear to be some really important Bolts!

https://nemigaparts.com/cat_spares/e...asis=16482263L

As shown at the link, the screws circled in the photo are crankshaft bearing cap holding bolts.

Forget the loctite idea.

These bolts are not reusable once installed and must be replaced. WIS states danger of breakage if reused ... and boy would you be screwed then.

The tightening spec is 53 nm, followed by turning a further 95 degrees.

It’s difficult to understand how these bolts would loosen unless the engine was overhauled subsequent to factory installation and the mechanic forgot them ... or reused them.
