The pulley centre hub is broken (as shown in photos below)
I contacted the creator of this video > https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nLHJ6BadGv8 and I got the reply that the clutch hub has done its job by breaking off without affecting the drivability of the car as the compressor could be internally locked..I could not get any further information from him to see whether it is repairable or need a new compressor.!

I have got a new clutch kit, but as the centre shaft with 7mm bolt is not rotating, if I fit the new clutch it will break right? If it is internal locked is it repairable or better to buy another one?

Thank you very much

broken clutch hub

broken part removed and I got a new clutch, but not sure new clutch will solve this issue as centre shaft with 7mm bolt not rotating
THAT is exactly what has happened with my 05 C230K.
Could you please tell me how you got the broken piece off the shaft? Mine spins freely but I can't get a grip on the broken piece to remove it.
I see in the excellent pictures that the broken piece is cracked. Did you cut it off or break it off?

I'm stuck right now trying to figure out how to get that piece off!

My VIN is WDBRF40J75A767186

I've got the pulley off and everything looks great. But that piece of the pulley that broke off is completely stuck on the shaft going into the compressor.
I'll post some pics shortly.

Can't get this piece of the pulley off the shaft!

That is what's left of the pulley cover. That thing is really frozen.

Did you have the directions to remove the pulley or did you just wing it thinking it was an easy job which requires special tools?

If I were you, I would get a new compressor and be done with it. Fill in the blanks on the Denso site and you will see you need #471-1580 compressor.

How did you remove that centerpiece from the shaft?

So, I haven't given an update on this because I didn't want further harassment. But perhaps my experience would be helpful to others. Lord knows this forum has been a life saver for me!

The pulley on the compressor sheared off as it was designed to do. This saved the compressor.

That piece that you asked about was stuck on the shaft like nothing I had ever seen before. We stripped the front of the shaft trying so hard to twist that piece off.
Finally I used a mill to cut away as much metal as I could, then we used some nippers to break the piece off. It too a lot of force, and it broke off in three pieces but we got it off. We had to re-thread the shaft because the threads were damaged in the process. No problem.

Installed the new pulley, turned on the AC and everything ran perfectly.

I did not need to remove or replace the compressor, only the sheared off pulley.

I hope this helps.

Question A/C Compressor Pulley Replacement

Hello,

My A/C Compressor Pulley bearing broke down destroying the drive belt with it. Used MB service manual (alldatadiy.com) procedure AR83.55-P-785D (Remove/Install Refrigerant Compressor belt Pulley) to remove the damaged pulley. The inner race was hard to pull out and the hub from the shaft was seized but I got them out with no damage to the compressor drive or bearing shoulder. Now I need the parts kit and I have hard time to find the one that fits my car.
Could anybody help me with the correct fit Belt Pulley Parts Kit part number and where to order?
I've tried to get it from local dealership but they said its not removable... After i sent them photos they still want to sell me a new compressor...
I have a 2007 ML320 CDI
Thank you very much

It's true, the only replaceable part is the pulley. Any other parts are only available to rebuilders.

You should not try to turn the bolt.

Here is a photo of your compressor. While the eng. is running, the pulley and the center hub will turn together regardless if you have A/C on or not
I know this is an old post, but I recently ordered this denso compressor and wasn't sure if the clutch was included when I ordered it. It looks just like the picture. I think my current's compressor clutch seized and it snapped my belt and hasn't worked since. Can I just put this denso compressor on as is, or does it need additional parts?

It should come just like on picture. You will need to put oil in it, run vacuum and fill it up with refrigerant.

Yea it already came with oil in it. My only concern is it looks different than the one on my car. It looks like it missing the clutch. It looks like just like the picture you shared. Does the one in the picture you shared already have the clutch installed?

BTW you are on a wrong forum. this is W164 and you need W163. The one you got is good and comes with the clutch.

The Denso 471-1580 is the correct A/c Compressor for the ML350. I have a 2008 ML350 and was recommended a different brand. After installing it it did nor communicate with the computer and I found (thanks to this forum) it needed a diode to be soldered and installed on it. Rather than do that I returned the wrong one and got (Amazon) and installed the Denso 471-1580 A/c Compressor. Worked like a charm. No Issues.
