07 320cdi hitch question

I've searched the web but can't find a definite answer to this:

If I install a factory hitch (not aftermarket) to this vehicle, do I have to change the rear bumper or any piece that has to be painted? I have an aftermarket hitch now but it sits too low. I can get a factory hitch and realize I have to take the bumper off to install it. Wondering if the stock bumper can be modified if necessary rather than having to buy a whole new rear bumper and have it painted?

Ecs tuning has the hitch but says I have to buy a "bumper panel" for $500. They don't have a picture so I don't know what it is they're talking about. Any help?

I have a factory hitch on my 08 ML 320 CDI and hope these pics will help. From what I can see, no bumper modification is necessary.

2007 needs to be trimmed a little. The pictures posted by CLK is from a 2008.

You will also need the 2 metal reinforcements and styrofoam inserts to complete your install.

Anyone know how hard the install is? Would a fairly competent DIY'r be able to tackle it, or should it be farmed out?

its easy to do - even for a 2006-2007 model. The hard part is the wiring/electrical. You will need a new SAM. But if you are only interested to use this for light duty (e.g. bike/ski rack) then its easy. I just had to trim a small piece from the middle section.
