disel owners check your injector seals

leaking injector seals happened on my 08 GL320 recently and i just want to warn others

thought i posted about it here but maybe not

this is a pretty easy and cheap fix IF caught early
gets to be a bigger job and more pia if caught later

pull the black foam rubber around the injectors and toss it
once they start leaking this makes it worse because it melts on there
and with it out you can check often

there is a lot of info under black death for the 2005-06 e class diesels
and for some stupid reason mercedes used the same set up on our V6 motors...

hope this helps someone else

Good warning. As suggested, I've just spent some time reading some of the posts on 'black death' in the E class diesels and it doesn't look pretty at all. Had a quick look at our V6 diesel and the foam rubber parts around the injectors still look perfect ... superficially anyway. Not all 6 of the injectors on our V6 have the foam rubber around them.
Just wondering what it is that causes the foam rubber to 'melt'. Is it from contact with diesel fuel leaking from the injectors or is it the heat from escaping combustion gases when the injector seat to the cylinder head is leaking?

i think it is the heat but dont really know

it just tends to make more of a mess if the foam is on there too, plus you cannot see the bottom of the injectors
