Hitch Question...

Searched, found a few posts, but not a "concrete" answer so -

Does anyone know if I can use the exterior part of a GL hitch (X164) on an ML (W164)? The part that actually has the receiver on it...

A guy locally has the stiffening / reinforcement arms for an 07 ML and the exterior receiver piece from an 07 GL, and offered them to me for $175. He said he'd include the SAM for an additional $50, but that I'd be on my own for nuts/bolts/hardware/harness.

So my question, will this combo work? It's a pretty good deal, so I'm hoping it will work!

Thanks!

I can't answer your question but it seems like a stretch that the two parts would be the same. From a cursory search the install process looks similar, remove bumper and tie into subframe. I put on an aftermarket hitch and have been happy with it FWIW. Hidden Hitch brand - was like $200 on etrailer.com. Doesn't have the full setup the OEM hitch does which allows for a higher tow rating, but honestly I wouldn't tow close to the max rating anyways, the W164 platform is too light. I know people do it, I just wouldn't.

There are differences to the arms that secure the assembly to the chassis.
