Mercedes W164-S2 ML320CDI 4Matic Airmatic DPF 2010
Rear end bouncing on Sport setting

My 2008 ML 320 CDI w/airmatic has a bad ride.

The rear end gets quite bouncy if i turn on Sport mode for ADS on highway and speeding. if road surface has some problems the back end starts to jump up and down (very similar to what happens when air struts are blown). The 4 air struts as well as ride height sensors and back hydro struts have been replaced together with compressor and this thing developed. The problem disappears on Auto and Comfort mode and ride is ok.

Could it be a result of wrong ride height calibration?

Thanks

I have exactly the same problem but still haven't found the cause.

Other posts (search for hard air suspension) show others also have this issue, but no solution as yet.

I think it might be a failed suspension acceleration sensor for the rear, which makes sense in the context of adaptive damping. If the ECU senses less body movement, it will harden up the suspension accordingly.

WIS shows the sensor somewhere in the right rear quarter of the vehicle but the image is a 3/4 view of the entire car and therefore the resolution is not high enough. There is only one sensor in the rear. The front sensors are easily found on top of each strut so we know what it looks like.

I've pulled apart my cargo area to view the top damper mounts on both sides, but it's not there.

Next step is to remove the rear inner guard and have a look from the underside.

Please post if you find the solution.
