bought wrong mirror; can it be modified?

I bought the mirror below for my daughter's ML, had it painted and installed and it turns out it does NOT power-fold. The body shop had already disposed of the old mirror base that was working but had broken clip or clips and now I'm wondering if the power-folding feature can be added to this mirror.

I would suggest contacting the supplier and see if they can supply a replacement mirror with the power folding feature. As you can probably imagine these mirrors have a motor and associated wiring fitted, which whilst not impossible to retrofit would be better to swap with the right part.

The good news is the case you've had painted will be a direct swap for the new one.

This part listed in their shop appears to have the folding feature as mentioned in their description: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Kool-Vue-Pow...AAAOSwq1JZNoqa

they sent me a return label and offered a refund, which would seem to indicate that they missed the part about my having had the item painted and installed. There is no good news; they're not a Mercedes parts specialist so it's unlikely they have what I now know I need. Yeah, it's folding, just not POWER folding.

They sell the part you're looking for. If you follow my previous link you'll see that mirror has the power folding feature.

I would suggest:
  • Ordering the correct part
  • Fit the correct part but swap the covers over
  • Send the wrong part back for a refund
The covers will be identical so you haven't wasted money having the current one painted.

Ahhh, I get it now. Apologies for misunderstanding at first...

So, this is turning into the project that won't end! I exchanged the part, and the body shop that had installed it did the replacement for me no charge. All good until now (some 6 weeks later) and the mirror "stutters" a little while trying (and failing) to fold. It'll fold with a little help, and it opens no problem. Any thoughts on what I might to to remedy that?

thanks Major! I would not have thought to push the mirror toward the FRONT of the car, as it folds toward the back....

Push right outside mirror away to the front in direction of engine hood.
Apply antifriction agent to guideway of plastic slider. The required antifriction agent is a component of noise service case A 000 580 03 50.
Move right outside mirror to starting position
Fold right outside mirror out and in
Repeat the process 10 times.

It does not want to let me push forward. I’m afraid to break it.
