OM642 Oil cooler leak - DIY fix?

Hi,
My R320 CDI (engine OM642) has the dreaded "oil cooler leak disease". However the oil leak is not that much..less than 0.5 dl each year.

I'm trying to think about alternative cheap/easy solutions to the problem that do not involve removing half of the engine to get to the seals.

What do you think about the idea to plug in a plastic tube to the engine seep hole (see video:
) and channel the leaking oil into a small can that can be emptied on demand ????

I want to avoid leaning my garage floor from oil spill once a year and spending big bucks on the oil cooler seal change repair

Any other DIY quick fixes for this problem?
Thanks for your help

I just put my oil drain pan under the car until I did the repair. You will want to do the repair as it will likely get worse. It is pressurized oil unlike a rear main seal or oil pan seal where it simply seeps out. Ours started leaking immediately after I did the 70k oil change so I waited until the next oil change was due before having it replaced. I believe I added a quart over that 10k miles. If you want to save $$ find an independent shop that is already familiar with the issue. They'll likely be 50% less than a dealer. I was quoted $3300 by the dealer. Ended up being ~$1700 from an independent shop.

Hi everyone. Have a 2013 GL350 Bluetec and just hit 90,000. Never had any issues with this car except some DEF stuff a few months after purchasing the car, all covered by warranty.

However, got this leak a couple days ago. Two Indy shops know this issue and say its quite common. They are quoting me around 3k. Haven't went to the dealer. Will be fixing it myself.
