Star Diagnosis, what can I do with it, which one to buy?

I was thinking the other day about the inability to even see many of the codes that are generated by my 2009 ML550 without a capable scanner, and I thought about this Star Diagnosis hardware.

What exactly can I do with that with my SUV that would be worth a minimum €800 outlay? And if I were to buy one, what should I look for? I've heard about C3 vs C4, and developer mode, etc. but I have no idea what this all means.

Yes, I saw that when you posted the link earlier to someone else, and I have it bookmarked. That's $500 cheaper than the cheapest Star Diagnosis system I can find out there. Is there an advantage to having a Star Diagnosis over having this scanner?

Also, will this scanner you have clear all the history of codes in the ECM? When I last got the car checked I was surprised to see there were codes and faults in there many months, and almost a year, old. Some of them were related to the work i had done to get the EU Comand radio to work! I see no reason why a potential buyer should see codes that are related to things that are not current problems with the car.

Regards,
juan

The only advantage of Star is it comes with WIS, (EPC and Starfinder not sure) installed. But you can do only simple coding. For coding modules, you must purchase the ability and procedure from M/B website which expires after 3 days, $75 per request.

The Autel scanner will read and clear each and every code in all of the 43 modules, whether they are old or current.

I wonder if those fees are the same in Germany... If so, then clearly a Star Diagnosis is of no use to me.

That you have to check.

Yes, but the question is how. I guess I'll have to go to the service center and ask. Thanks!
