722.9 gearbox
Hello, I have a 2006 ML320. I have just done a gearbox service (ie. changed oil in box, new filter, drained torque converter, flushed out oil cooler, refilled box and checked at 45 degrees centigrade and let excess drain off). It took about 8.5 to 9 litres. Before the service the only problem with the box was sometimes on slowing down and pulling away when it was a little clunky. Now the box shudders badly under throttle going up steep hills, especially if it changes up from lower gears. On the flat it works OK but is still a little clunky at low speed when slowing down and pulling away. Has anyone any ideas why? Will it settle down?

Hi. Maj. Dundee. I purchased 10 litres of 236.14 ATF specifically designed for a 722.9 7 speed gearbox from my local Mercedes Agent, who informed me it was the correct oil. Subsequent investigation confirmed this. Any ideas would be appreciated.

Great that you used the correct oil.
What I would do is, get it up to 45 degrees again and remove the drain plug and see if you overfilled with fluid. Wear appropriate rubber glove as it will be hot and make sure the veh. is level.

Hi.Maj. Dundee. Have checked oil again and it is correct. Just a dribble at 45 degrees. It has started to judder slightly on acceleration now. There are no problem codes coming up on the OBD diagnostic code reader. Going to run it for a week to see if it settles down, if not I will redrain and do it again. Thanks again. Dave

Being that you used the correct fluid and there is a dribble, doing it again would be a waste of time and money.
Give it sometime and then replace the oil again, but not the filter.
