What makes the radiator fan come on and go to high speed after starting? Also what would make the transmission have no communication?( Code U0101)

I might be able to help with the radiator fan - I am currently in process of replacing the a/c compressor - the tec removed the pressure sensor plug from the a/c line near radiator on LHS while waiting for new compressor (to immobilise the a/c compressor I assume), I notice the radiator fan runs on hi all the time now,
