Codes on my 2008 ML 320 CDI 4MATIC
I am the second owner of a ML 320 CDI SUV which I bought in 2012 with a mere 60,000 miles on it. I am not sure that it was serviced like I service my vehicles, but it was accident free. Fast forward and now in 2018 we have 200,000 miles on my SUV. This car is a dream to drive and I want to keep it going- the Mercedes Dealership wants to sell me a new SUV. I had to locate the techs known in my area to be the best because they had changed locations. Problem took them about two weeks to fix (No power situation) and everything was fine. Turned out to be something to do with the exhaust from the best of my recollection. Then later my daughter who was learning to drive ran into the garage door and had a rear end collision. Now the check engine light is on and the codes (From Advance Auto machine) say P1408 and P0472. I would go back to the Mercedes Guru who fixed my other problem, but I took another Mercedes to this same dealership (E320) and I think I got taken on an air conditioning unit. The mechanic I bought the E320 from was close to my office and I used him when I could and he reported the A/C unit was the original. I paid the Mercedes dealer $1325 or $1350 for a new one. I am thinking he is probably right because the dealership told me they did not have an AC Unit then suddenly had one. I don't like the way private mechanics like to try to take you on maintenance- reason I quit going to guy near my office or how the dealership does. I am all about maintaining a vehicle, but I don't want to be slapped with a $600 or more bill every time I go somewhere. Please help if you can. I have to have to have 4MATIC for getting to work in bad weather. I am a Nurse, and I will not be buying a Mercedes SUV in the future if this continues.
HINT TO MERCEDES: ALL NEW SUV purchases should have MAINTENANCE INCLUDED for the first 100,000.

Out Of Control!!
I can appreciate that you are frustrated that you have to pay for repairs on a ten year old cream puff when you think those costs should be built into the price of the car. If that was the case you could have never afforded the second hand car in the first place. Secondly do you get paid for your work or do you donate all your time?
In any event I got lost after reading one line of your post----can you state your question more succinctly.

P1408. Description of the defect. EGR Flow Out of Self This test is performed during the KOER on demand self-test only.
The test fails and the DTC is output when the measured EGR flow falls above or below the required calibration .
P0472 Exhaust Pressure Sensor Low Input
Symptoms of a P0472 engine code may include: Check Engine Light illuminated Lack of power Unable to perform manual regeneration – burn off the soot out of the particulate filter. Looks like a catalytic converter but has temp sensors and pressure sensor probes inserted into it. If unable to perform regeneration, eventually may become a crank-no start.
Typically the causes for this code to set are: Open in the signal circuit between the exhaust pressure sensor and the PCM Open in the power supply circuit between the exhaust pressure sensor and the PCM Short to ground in the signal circuit to the exhaust pressure sensor Exhaust Pressure Sensor faulty – internally shorted to ground Possibly a powertrain control module (PCM) has failed (highly unlikely)
Again these are generic engine codes;but it will give you something to go off of. Best bet is probably your dpf
cheers!
